Day 0: The Reawakening

Hello,
My name is Ashvin and to really explain what this blog is about I have to paint you a word picture about myself. I am a 20 year old, struggling 4th year college student, who weighs too much and smokes. I mean, I am definitely more than those four things but those are some of my biggest flaws I would like to change and that is why I started this blog. Over the next four months, every day I am going to write what I am doing to improve myself. I have learned that every decision you make in life can be conducive to achieving your goals, so this blog will not just be for the internet but for me to see if I am on the right track or not.

For me to get on the right track right off the gate I want to more clearly define my goals so I can measure my progress easier. For example a goal of, 'running a mile faster,' is a lot more vague than, 'running a mile 3 minutes faster.' So I will start writing some realistic goals to help me improve myself.

1) Get an 80% average this semester in university. I have very poor marks in university and last year I got demoted out of my actuarial science program and into a bachelor of math program. The part I am most ashamed of about my situation is that my parents are paying for all my university and I am essentially wasting the money they worked so hard for me... I play rugby on a team in Toronto and one day at a team dinner many of my mates told a similar story about how immature they were at my age or younger and wasted the opportunity of getting an education. Many of them were not living up to there full potential and I could see the longer it takes for you to realize it, the harder it is to live up to your full potential.

2) Lose 3 inches of fat around my stomach. I played my first season of rugby after almost four years this summer and while I had a blast, I did not play my best. It is tough going into battle with your team mates every weekend knowing you did not leave it all on the field. I love watching sports and players I admire most are the ones who hustle and are relentless. I want to get into better shape so I can become said player and know that I left everything on the field. I also know that you have to work from the core out and my stomach is the part of the body I hate working out the most. It involves both a proper diet and exercise and that is why I chose it.

3) Get one Preliminary Actuarial Exam done this semester. I have a few done. I just need to make a an hour or two every day to prepare for one.

4) Quit Smoking. I want to live a long life, get in better shape and keep my face looking young.

Every day I am going to chronicle what steps I took both forward or back to achieving my goals.
